Our next tournament will be May 19, 2012, at First Congregational Church. Enter the door on the inside corner of the building to the right of the main entrance. This door faces the parking lot.

My son had a lot of fun at the Kiwanis Club tournament and is interested in entering more events.
Will there be a junior level class at this tournament?
If not, can you recommend any other events in the area that would be geared towards junior players?

There are no classes or divisions in this tournament. Anyone is eligible to play (if they're a USCF member) and everyone plays in the same section.
Except for the annual Kiwanis tournament, I do not know of any chess programs in the area aimed specifically at kids.

By the way. the late David Mote once chided me on my insistence that inexperienced chess players ought to study Fine's 'Basic Chess Endings' (aka BCE) if they wanted to improve their understanding of the game. David said that the sheer size of BCE often discouraged people from even making the attempt at unlocking the wealth of knowledge within BCE.

Instead, David recommended the use and study of Grandmaster Lev Alburt's 'Chess Training Pocket Book: 300 Most Important Positions', now in its Third Revised Edition. It is a relatively small book, no more than 200 pages that is easily held in one hand.
